Aging in Place
"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
Mark Twain

The concept of aging is being redefined by one of the largest age segments in our society known as the "Baby Boomers".  Boomers are those men and women born between 1946 and 1964.  Boomers have been setting the social tone in America for the last half century. You won't catch a Baby Boomer sitting quietly in a rocking chair in their retirement.  Older Americans today are busy roller blading or surfing the internet.  Their definition of old age is "three years after one is dead".

Americans are realizing that their health and well-being in later life depends on the environment in which they live.  Their goal is to maintain independence. More than 89% plan on staying in
their own home for the rest of their life.

According to the National Safety Council, falls are the leading cause of injury and related death in the home.  Almost without exception, falls are caused by a design deficiency in one's home. Design features can be incorporated into any home to maximize the ability to age in place which makes one's home more accessible and
functional.

Aging in Place is accomplished either proactively or reactively. Gerontologic design is a reactive
approach to Aging in Place that generally takes the form of remodeling or modifying an existing space.  Gerontologic design is reactive which provides safety and comfort that meets a need.

As the demand for aging in place design increases so does the need for professionally trained individuals who are experts in Aging in Place.  Which is why the CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist) program was established by the National Association of Home Builders.  A CAPS interior designer is trained to treat home design problems and to prevent problems from getting worse.

Hiring a CAPS designer from Ageless Designs is a proactive step in providing for present as well as future requirements.  We focus on incorporating timeless, ageless features known as universal or life span design.  Ageless Designs responds to the inclusive needs for all members of a family tall to small and everyone in between.
